Introduction

SCWS is designed to extend features of the Operations Manager SDK to all types of computer. Initially the idea was to find a way of placing objects into maintenance mode without having to have the Operations Manager DLLs present. A web service seemed the ideal way to do this and it has the added bonus of supporting just about any client capable of talking HTTP.

SCWS Components

WEB SERVICE

The server component is an ASP .Net 3.5 web service written in C#. Requests are made using SOAP (HTTP POST requests formed using XML). As such, any system capable of submitting these requests may use the web service.

CONSOLE CLIENT

The second component is a .Net console application written in C#, this communicates with the web service using HTTP. This client is suitable for integration scenarios, or use with scripting / scheduling.

WPF CLIENT

The third component is a WPF Windows application, again written in C#. Like the console app, this communicated with the web service using HTTP. The WPF client is focused on the maintenance mode aspects of the web service.
